No Comment
So I have one of those tracking things that is supposed to tell me how many people are reading my blog, and how many hits I'm getting and all that good stuff...
The truth is though that I'm such a procrastinator when I do have good ideas, and so busy all the rest of the time that I don't ever go to look at it...
So, I often post blogs, and then wonder ( sometimes for days ) if anyone read it, what people thought, how it came across, should I give up this hobby, etc, etc, etc... ( Yeah, I could go look at the tracking thing, but I've already pointed out that I'm too lazy, and I'm not sure I trust it anyway... )
And then earlier this week something hit me... I was reading one of the many blogs I follow in my RSS reader, and came across a FANTASTIC post! I thought to myself, that I must go on over to the page and see what comments people have made and no one had posted anything!
As I sighed and went back to my RSS reader, I realized something fairly profound
( for me at least ).
I SUCK at leaving comments!
So! ( You were waiting for the point, weren't you?? ) I have decided to be a better commenter. I am making a concerted effort, in the midst of all my blog reading, to leave comments for the other writers who pour themselves into their blogs.
Be it a "Great Post", "Very interesting", "What the heck?!?", or a quick but heart felt response... I want to let the folks who's blogs I'm reading that someone is reading them.
I guess the point to all of this ( does there really have to be a point ) is that if something someone posts on their blog strikes you... ( good, bad, warm fuzzy, what the heck?, whatever ). Let them know!
Last thing.
Marko posted this a while back, and it seems to fit along with this rant so well that I couldn't help but borrow it.

On the bandwagon...
I want to take a minute this afternoon to jump on the bandwagon with my friend Marty...
He just posted this post, which inspired me to jump in and say something...
I am not enjoying the politics at all. Bigger than the issue that I am sick of political TV commercials, sick of being bombarded on all sides by scare tactics and trash talk, and completely sick of people asking me "Who do you support"... I am really just at a point where I'm really thinking that NONE of the candidates are good candidates.
and this is why....
WHAT THE HECK WOULD CAUSE A PERSON TO WANT TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?
Bear in mind that as the POTUS, no matter how hard you work, how sincere you are, and how passionately you pursue your political agenda that people are going to be angry with you, bad mouth you, make fun of you, threaten you, and that you will be in the spotlight 24x7!
It's not that I don't like some of the candidates, or even respect some of their ideas... I think I'm just waaaayyyy to cynical to believe that ANY of them REALLY have what is best for someone other than themselves at the center of why they are running for president.
If you've spent any time around me at all, you've heard me quoting this chapter over and over in the past few months... If you haven't spent any time around me, then this is for you.
"The major problem - one of the major problems, for there are several - one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.
And so this is the situation we find: a succession of Galactic Presidents who so much enjoy the fun and palaver of being in power that they very rarely notice that they're not.

Happy Leap Day!
Happy Leap Day everyone!
I know the blog as been a bit stale as of late... I'd like to put forth the excuse that I've just been too busy to take the time to put my thoughts down...
Although I do have several blog posts in the hopper ( thoughts on LOST, the Post-It Pike is getting full, I got stuck in an elevator the other day, and so on... ) I've just been too tired and rushed to form them into readable posts that I'm ok with sticking out there...
So anyway, here is a short blog to say Happy Leap Day!

A survey about books.
This has been going around, and although I wasn't actually tagged on this post, I saw it over on pomomusings and have been meaning to post my own answers for a couple of days.
I am a voracious reader. In general I read seven to ten books a month.
That being said, I just couldn't pass this one up.
1. One book that changed your life
I think that most of the people who know me well won't be surprised by this answer, even though it is a little odd...
I'd say that the book that most changed my life is probably The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
I became fanatical ( obsessed, even ) with this book early in high school and probably read it cover to cover hundreds of times between my freshman year and graduation. It was defining for my sense of humour, my vocabulary, my interests, and many of my friendships.
My original copy of Hitchiker's, I gave to a great friend in 1996 knowing that I would never see him again, and wanting to have something to remember me by. I had basically taken the book everywhere with me for three years, and knowing what it meant to me, he was very reluctant to take it, but did in the end. My replacement copy ( shown below ) has been on my shelf since 1997, and I still read it cover to cover about twice a year.
If I had to answer this question twice my next answer would be Velvit Elvis by Rob Bell.
2. One book you’ve read more than once
I almost always re-read books that I liked the on the first read. There are certain books though that I make a point to re-read at least once a year ( or so ).
Just a couple of these include Hitchiker's ( of course ) and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.
3. One book you’d want on a desert island
I so want to say The Bible... and ( like Adam ) I would say The Bible if I KNEW I'd be getting off the island at some point... the forced reading would be good for me...
However, if I were stuck on the island permanently I'd rather have something distracting to read than something I'd have to think about...
Maybe the complete works of Chris Moore ?
4. Two books that made you laugh
Lamb by Chris Moore. One of my new favorite books.
The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman.
5. One book that made you cry
When we were kids, instead of watching TV in the evenings, Dad would read out loud to my brother and sister and I while we sat around on the floor. Dad collects books about Robin Hood, and one of his favorites is Robin Hood by Henry Gilbert, published in 1912.
Every time he read it out loud to us, and even when I went back and read it myself in later years, I always cried at the end when Robin Hood dies.
6. One book you wish had been written
How do you answer this question? I guess I'm not sure what the book would be about, but I feel strongly that the following people should write books. I would buy one.

Again, I find this question horribly unfair... I'm no where close to having read all the books in the world and am therefore unqualified to say that some books should never have been written...
Also, I'm having a hard time thinking of any books I've read that I absolutely just hated...
I'm pretty open to the freedom of thinking and freedom of expression thing too... So even if I don't like a book, or don't agree with the content there-in I'm not sure I would go so far as to say that it should never have been written...

I am currently reading I, Strahd - The Memoirs of a Vampire by P.N. Elrod and They Like Jesus but Not the Church by Dan Kimball.
9. One book you’ve been meaning to read
I have several friends and blog-quaintances who have written or published books that I've been meaning to order and read, but not gotten around to yet.
My friend Kevin Pettway writes a web comic called Heros of Lesser Earth. He published a book of his comics in the fall of last year, that I wish I had grabbed a copy of.
Gordon Atkinson of RealLivePreacher.com also has a book published that I would like to pick up and read.
Well, that's it for me...
